Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that works on finding and building solutions rather than focusing on problems. The foundations for this type of work are a deep belief in the individual and a continual desire to build hope. I am drawn to Solution Focused because it stays away from pathologising and labeling, supporting my belief that:

                                         *everyone has strengths and resources

                                           *you are the expert in your own life

                                        *challenges in life can make us stronger

                   *change can occur, regardless of diagnosis, history and circumstances.

 

SFBT is a very collaborate process, like sharing the common project of unlocking transformation. Many people describe it as a future-focused approach, but really it's about getting the details of how your life will look, feel, and be once your desired changes are present. It is also about becoming aware of how these changes are already in your life, possibly unnoticed. It can be used with anyone, no matter the problem, as we all have the ability to hope and imagine.
